Beetle Microworld is a stand-alone sculpture made of a weathered tree branch with tunnels dug into the wood by woodpeckers and burrowing insects. The structure looks like the beetles chose it for these cave-like properties to protect their nests. Actual iridescent beetle wings are strewn around the dwellings as well as vintage chandelier crystals. Vintage brass beetle broaches with gossamer-like wings of dried, baked magnolia leaves inhabit this woodland dwelling. The sculpture is constructed with wood glue, glazed with lacquer and painted with pearlized paint pigments to enhance the natural hues.
