Blue Birds

Blue Birds is a large wall hanging sculpture made of the weathered bark shell of a tree trunk. I built “nests” into the natural indentations in the bark where branches once grew for the cast iron blue birds to rest in. The bark is treated with natural paint pigments to enhance the colors of the botanical elements – tendrils from grape vines, reindeer moss and dried flower seeds and petals.  The sculpture is constructed with wood glue, glazed with lacquer and painted with pearlized paint pigments to enhance the natural hues.
