Botanical Mixed Media Compositions

The mixed media compositions have evolved from the sculptural wreathes I create. Unlike the wreathes which have built in wires for hanging. These works are built into a frame allowing me to create a still life structure out of real-life botanical specimens – as a painting would be displayed.  I have developed various techniques for preserving as much of the original object found in nature as possible. I also use opalescent paint pigments to enhance and/or embellish natural hues. Sometimes the original objects are recognizable, other times, they blend into the collage combining many different florae. I use wood glue to secure the items and glaze the final composition to preserve the color and protect the delicate specimens in the art work.
