Habitats - Microworlds

In the microworld sculptures I try to convey a lived-in natural habitat – i.e. frogs on a marsh island, baby birds nesting.   The botanical objects are often used to represent a real-world natural phenomenon, i.e. a bee hive, or are used is a novel context – i.e. turquoise or jade stones to suggest seeds or eggs, dried and cured leaves as bee, dragon fly or beetle wings. Some of the sculptures relay on these intricate details as parts of a whole that resembles a world in nature – the habitats of insects, reptiles, birds.  Other sculptures are more abstract leaving the viewer to imagine a natural context they might have evolved from.
